The Run to the Border route starts in Apple Valley and heads south to Lake Mills, IA, just across the border on roads with few towns, then back again via Albert Lea, Owatonna, Faribault on a different route with more services. We have run this route for several years and the salient points that are relevant are:
1. The roads are in pretty good shape and low traffic for the vast most part. Lots of soybeans, corn and farms with only a few small towns & cities along the way.
2. This is about as flat a route as you can get for this distance in this part of Minnesota with no significant hills. Climbing comes mostly from rollers.
3. Wind usually is a factor, one way or the other.
4. This ride will include night riding, so bring front and rear lights and a reflective vest.
